Maria Mahon

Ms. Mahon serves as Vice President and Consulting Actuary of By the Numbers Actuarial Consulting, Inc (BYNAC). She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Ms. Mahon has 30 years of experience in the actuarial field. She brings an extensive background in reinsurance pricing and reserving to her work at BYNAC, contributing an important perspective and knowledge base to the firm.

Ms. Mahon began her actuarial career at Reliance Insurance as an actuarial analyst, where she worked for five years. While in an actuarial rotation program she held various positions in commercial and personal rate making areas. At the time she left Reliance, Ms. Mahon’s responsibilities included support of the actuarial pricing area for Reliance’s Large Account Division.

Ms. Mahon joined Maiden Re (formerly GMAC Re) in 1994, where she spent 25 years. Over her years at Maiden Re, Ms. Mahon held various positions in the reinsurance pricing and reserving functions and worked on a wide variety of actuarial projects. She also led a multi-functional and cross-disciplinary team consisting of multiple departments dedicated to writing broker treaty reinsurance contracts. As part of this team, Ms. Mahon managed broker and client relationships. The team also performed on-site client visits and audits to assess clients’ underwriting and claims procedures and present reinsurance terms.

Prior to joining BYNAC, Ms. Mahon spent a year with Willis Towers Watson analyzing loss reserves for property and casualty insurers, reinsurers, and captives, and reviewing pricing of clients’ reinsurance contracts.

Ms. Mahon joined BYNAC in the summer of 2020. Her extensive reinsurance background is a valuable asset to the firm and its clients.
